Edith Stein, llamada Santa Teresa Benedicta de la Cruz, nace el 12 de 1891 en Breslavia, Alemania -hoy Polonia-, y muere el 9 de agosto de 1942 en Auschwitz. Fue filósofa, mística, religiosa carmelita, mártir y santa alemana de origen judío. Es copatrona de Europa. Beatificada en 1987 y canonizada en 1998 por el Papa Juan Pablo II. La vida de Edith Stein está marcada por la filosofía, que la empuja o induce a una búsqueda continua de la verdad, y por el cristianismo, al que se convierte tras la lectura de la vida de santa Teresa de Jesús.


Edith Stein, also Saint Teresia Benedicta of the Cross (October 12, 1891 – August 9, 1942), was a German Roman Catholic philosopher and nun, regarded as a martyr and saint of the Roman Catholic Church. Born into an observant Jewish family, she was baptized January 1, 1922 into the Roman Catholic Church and received into the Discalced Carmelite Order as a postulant in 1934. She was canonized by Pope John Paul II in 1998.
