Our Lady of Czestochowa
Description
Our Lady of Czestochowa is a depiction of Mary said to have been painted by St. Luke on the Holy Family's cedar tabletop! In the image, Mary has darker skin, earning her the nickname "Black Madonna." After centuries of miraculous stories associated with the image, Our Lady of Czestochowa is now in Poland as the nation’s patroness. The scratches on her face were caused by a blade during an attempt in 1430 to steal the painting
