18 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 18
Begginers Prayer
Having made the Sign of the Cross and
kneeling preferably before the
Blessed Sacrament or the image of
Saint Michael the Archangel,
raising your heart to God, who is present,
and bowing deeply in spirit,
you will say every day:
Act of Contrition
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I am heartily sorry for having
offended You; I firmly resolve never to sin again,
to abstain from all occasions
of sin, to go to confession and do penance.
I offer You, Lord, my life, works,
and labors in satisfaction for all my sins.
Amen.
Daily Prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, God of Angels,
Archangels, and Principalities; God of Powers,
Virtues, and Dominions; God of Thrones,
Cherubim, and Seraphim;
who ceaselessly praise and bless
Your Holy Name and fulfill the commands of
Your sovereign Majesty, surrounding
Your exalted Throne, and offering You,
as a sweet-smelling aroma,
the incense of our prayers,
which we now address to You,
we humbly beg You to accept.
We beseech You,
through the glory and intercession
of the glorious Saint Michael,
that You deign to grant us Your assistance,
and keep us safe from the snares,
deceits, and power of Satan and
all infernal spirits.
May God arise, and may His enemies
be destroyed through Jesus Christ,
Our Lord. Amen.
Day 18
SAINT MICHAEL PUTS GOOD SOULS IN
POSSESSION OF GLORY
Let us consider that Saint Michael, as Head of those
Angelic Hierarchies and Superintendent of all their
celestial government, is the one who, unceasingly,
is charged with preparing places and rewards in the
heavenly Jerusalem or Church Triumphant for the souls
who journey through the militant Church in the desert
of this world, accompanying them, directing them, and
advising them so that they may become worthy of great
palms and crowns. Having pronounced the sentence in
favor of the predestined in the particular judgment, he
presents their souls to the Holy Trinity and places them
in possession of glory. And thus the Church says in her
office, that Saint Michael comes with a multitude of Angels,
to whom God has entrusted the souls, to take them to
Paradise.
Saint Michael carried to Abraham's bosom the souls of the
Patriarchs and Prophets: Isaac, Jacob, David, Saint Joachim,
Saint Anne, Saint Simeon, Saint John the Baptist,
Saint Joseph, and all the others of the Old Testament who
died before Jesus Christ, Our Lord, from Adam and Eve; the
innocent Abel, with Job, and the others mentioned in the
Holy Books, either as righteous or as true penitents.
Saint Michael also leads the Saints to Heaven in the
New Testament, after the Resurrection and triumphant
Ascension to Heaven of Our Savior Jesus, who opened
the doors to Heaven for all men with His shameful Passion
and painful Death. There he took the souls of Saint Stephen,
Saint Lawrence, Saint Peter, Saint Paul, Saint James, and
all the other Apostles, Evangelists, Martyrs, Pontiffs,
Doctors, Confessors, Virgins, Widows, Anchorites, and
Penitents of the Law of Grace.
He first took the souls of the innocent children who were
martyred by Herod in revenge for the Child Jesus, and he
has taken and continues to take the souls of all the innocent
children who die after Baptism, adorned with the theological
virtues and gifts of the Holy Spirit, which He Himself infused
into them. And Saint Gregory of Turin affirms that the arms
of Saint Michael were the triumphant chariot in which the soul
of Mary Most Holy ascended to heaven, the Son granting his
servant the honor of presenting to the Most Holy Trinity the
precious soul of his Most Holy Mother. It was the best and
richest gift ever given to God, apart from the soul of his divine
Son and his merits. It was worth more than Heaven and earth,
with all that is contained within them.
Let us live in such a way that, finding ourselves faithful to God
and imitating the virtues of Our Lord Jesus Christ, His Most
Holy Mother, and the saints, Saint Michael may joyfully
present our souls before the throne of the Most Holy Trinity,
and may the treasures of our Divine Redeemer be applied
to us and adorn us in the mansion of glory.
Example
Around the year 1376, Don Lope Fernández de Luna,
Archbishop of Zaragoza, went to visit the miraculous image
of Our Lady of the Sierra. Walking to Villa Roya, he sent his
servants on ahead and stayed with a chaplain.
The most devout prelate was praying when, at an unusual
hour, before reaching a pine grove, he heard a sad voice,
plaining pitifully. The voice repeated its pity, and when he
asked his chaplain if he had heard any complaints,
he replied that he had heard a lamentable voice. Once the
Archbishop was safe, he told him to follow him, and, tying
their horses to some logs offered by the forest, they walked
in search of the voice. Arriving at the place to which the
complaint had led them, they saw, not without great
admiration and astonishment, a head severed from a
corpse a few paces away, which was jumping on the
ground. They were greatly surprised when the head
said aloud: Archbishop Lope, confession.
The Archbishop approached the head, heard the
confession, and after having absolved the man,
the man told the Archbishop that the reason God
had granted him such great grace, preserving his
soul in his head until he confessed, was because
he had been very devoted to Saint Michael, and
imploring his favor when some of his enemies cut
his throat, the Holy Archangel appeared to him and
promised that he would not die until he confessed
his sins. Having said this, he breathed his last,
and the Archbishop ordered the ecclesiastical
body to be buried; and in memory of this marvel,
he built the chapel of Saint Michael in the See
of Zaragoza, in which this miracle is recounted.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength!
We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary,
and of the glorious Saint Michael the Archangel,
you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the
harm of mankind and the ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them
from us forever. Amen.
