23 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 23
Point One
The Holy Church herself, moved by the Holy Spirit
in the prayer of Saint Michael, tells us about the
great Archangel: The Church venerates him as
Guardian and Patron.
Already in the ancient Church of the Synagogue,
he displayed his power and protection to save the
honor of God and the worship that Satan disputed
with him. Since Lucifer was defeated there in
Heaven by Michael, the spirit of evil has experienced
defeat in all its attacks on the Church.
The infamous one once defeated, and by deception,
the first man, the head of humanity; but by attacking
the head of the Church, the Archangel Saint Michael,
he has always come to the defense of the Bride of
Jesus Christ. This glorious Archangel, as the Holy
Fathers affirm, covered with his tutelary wing the Hebrew
people, chosen by God and destined to keep his promises
and present worthy worship to his adorable Majesty.
And that assiduous protection that the Holy Archangel
bestowed upon the Synagogue, he now equally pleases
to extend to the Church, defending and saving her from
the many dangers that threaten her, and from the terrible
assaults directed against her by her enemies.
The Church also invokes him as the leader of Paradise
to whom God has entrusted the souls of the righteous,
and charged with the defense and protection of his chosen
people, and of the Bride of the Lord. And such is the trust
that the Church places in this Holy Archangel that today
she places on the lips of all the priests of the world fervent
prayers addressed to the Archangel Saint Michael, begging
him to protect Catholicism against the terrible attacks of hell
and all sectarians.
Give thanks to God, for, as a member of the Catholic Church,
you are placed under the care and protection of the glorious
Prince of Angels.
Second Point
According to the Holy Fathers, Saint Michael was the Angel
chosen by God to make our Father Adam conceive the
sorrow and repentance that earned him the most complete
forgiveness for his sin.
Saint Michael was sent to confound the tongues of
those haughty builders of the Tower of Babel, who
were foolishly trying to mock God. Saint Michael spoke
to the Patriarch Abraham, prophesying a descendant of
faithful people as numerous as the stars in Heaven,
despite Sarah's advanced age.
The same Saint Michael appeared to Jacob, guiding
him along the road to Haran, promising his protection,
and encouraged Moses, actively assisting him in his
attempts to subdue the indecisive Pharaoh and crush
his magicians.
The leaders of the Catholic Church have continually
experienced his effective assistance in the incessant
battles they must wage against hell and its vile servants.
Furthermore, the image of the Holy Archangel erected
on Hadrian's Hill, next to the residential palace of the
Vicar of Jesus Christ, dominates Rome, the capital
city of Catholicism.
Ask Saint Michael to console the Holy Father and to
grant you the grace to always be a submissive and
obedient son of the Church.
Example
If the life of Saint Joan of Arc offers us admirable
proof of Saint Michael's protection, the death of this
glorious saint is a paragon of constant and firm
devotion to the great Archangel, guardian of Paradise.
The English, her bitter enemies, managed to take
her prisoner in Compiègne, took her to Rouen, and
there she was condemned by a wicked court to be
burned at the stake.
The saint, when her wicked judges questioned her
about the apparitions of Saint Michael, fearlessly
replied that she had had frequent apparitions of
Saint Michael since the age of thirteen. As the
judges tried to confuse her with tricky questions,
Joan replied ever more firmly, even though she
knew she would be condemned to death: "I have
seen Saint Michael with my own eyes, and I am
as certain of his existence as I am of the existence
of God."
The judges persisted with their tricky questions,
and Joan replied again: Yes, I am sure it was
Saint Michael who came to comfort and console
me: I have the same certainty and assurance that it
was Saint Michael as I have that Our Lord Jesus
Christ suffered Death and Passion to free us from
the pains of hell.
Finally, when she knelt before being taken to the
stake, she fervently invoked Saint Michael; and when
she was surrounded by flames, two venerable religious
men who were present heard her loudly invoke the
name of Saint Michael.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength!
We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary,
and of the glorious Saint Michael the Archangel,
you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the
harm of mankind and the ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them
from us forever. Amen.
