19 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 19
Begginers Prayer
Having made the Sign of the Cross and
kneeling preferably before the
Blessed Sacrament or the image of
Saint Michael the Archangel,
raising your heart to God, who is present,
and bowing deeply in spirit,
you will say every day:
Act of Contrition
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I am heartily sorry for having
offended You; I firmly resolve never to sin again,
to abstain from all occasions
of sin, to go to confession and do penance.
I offer You, Lord, my life, works,
and labors in satisfaction for all my sins.
Amen.
Daily Prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, God of Angels,
Archangels, and Principalities; God of Powers,
Virtues, and Dominions; God of Thrones,
Cherubim, and Seraphim;
who ceaselessly praise and bless
Your Holy Name and fulfill the commands of
Your sovereign Majesty, surrounding
Your exalted Throne, and offering You,
as a sweet-smelling aroma,
the incense of our prayers,
which we now address to You,
we humbly beg You to accept.
We beseech You,
through the glory and intercession
of the glorious Saint Michael,
that You deign to grant us Your assistance,
and keep us safe from the snares,
deceits, and power of Satan and
all infernal spirits.
May God arise, and may His enemies
be destroyed through Jesus Christ,
Our Lord. Amen.
Day 19
SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL SUPPORTS
THE SOULS IN PURGATORY
Let us consider it a dogma of our Holy Religion
that there is a place where those who die in grace,
without having fully satisfied their sins, must purify
themselves and pay every last cent of their debts,
and cannot enter Paradise until they have purged
all their sins.
The torments of that place are unspeakable, for
according to Saint Augustine and Saint Thomas,
the smallest torment of Purgatory surpasses and
surpasses all that can be suffered in this world.
Therefore, the desire to experience some relief,
some consolation, in the midst of so many torments
must be very keen. For this relief and consolation will
be provided by Saint Michael the Archangel, for this
loving protector will not forget his devotees, but will
be eager to present to God the suffrages offered for
them, and will console them, since he is charged with
performing this task for the souls in Purgatory. In his
Office, we read that God has entrusted all the souls
who are saved to him to lead them to Paradise.
At the Mass for the Dead, the Church prays to the
Holy Archangel to present to God in the place of
holy light the souls of those who have died. Filled
with tender concern for the good souls entrusted
and recommended to him, he does not fail to assist
and help them, providing them with much relief from
the pains of Purgatory. If in this world he comforts
those who are afflicted and devoted to him, he will
comfort those poor souls, tormented beyond measure.
It must be extremely pleasing to the Holy Archangel
that his devotees dedicate themselves to prayers,
suffrages, and good works for the souls in Purgatory,
so that he may present them to the Lord and lead
them as quickly as possible to the holy light that
God promised to Abraham and his descendants.
Example
Jaime Massi tells us that one day a priest was
recommending some souls, pronouncing the words
of the Mass: "May the Prince of Angels, Saint Michael,
lead them into the place of holy light," and at that very
moment he saw the glorious Archangel descend from
Heaven to Purgatory to free them. The same author
adds that a monk from Cîteaux, after his death,
appeared to a friend of his, a priest, and told
him that he was still in Purgatory, but that he
would be released from there if he commended him
to Saint Michael during Mass. The priest did as he
wished, and he saw, and others saw, the soul of his
friend taken to Heaven by the Holy Archangel,
the heavenly consoler of Purgatory.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength!
We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary,
and of the glorious Saint Michael the Archangel,
you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the
harm of mankind and the ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them
from us forever. Amen.
