24 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 24
Begginers Prayer
Having made the Sign of the Cross and
kneeling preferably before the
Blessed Sacrament or the image of
Saint Michael the Archangel,
raising your heart to God, who is present,
and bowing deeply in spirit,
you will say every day:
Act of Contrition
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I am heartily sorry for having
offended You; I firmly resolve never to sin again,
to abstain from all occasions
of sin, to go to confession and do penance.
I offer You, Lord, my life, works,
and labors in satisfaction for all my sins.
Amen.
Daily Prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, God of Angels,
Archangels, and Principalities; God of Powers,
Virtues, and Dominions; God of Thrones,
Cherubim, and Seraphim;
who ceaselessly praise and bless
Your Holy Name and fulfill the commands of
Your sovereign Majesty, surrounding
Your exalted Throne, and offering You,
as a sweet-smelling aroma,
the incense of our prayers,
which we now address to You,
we humbly beg You to accept.
We beseech You,
through the glory and intercession
of the glorious Saint Michael,
that You deign to grant us Your assistance,
and keep us safe from the snares,
deceits, and power of Satan and
all infernal spirits.
May God arise, and may His enemies
be destroyed through Jesus Christ,
Our Lord. Amen.
Day 24
SAINT MICHAEL, MOST JEALOUS LOVER OF THE SACRAMENT OF THE EUCHARIST
Point One
Consider how, since Saint Michael passed, by
divine disposition, from protector of the Synagogue
to protector of the Church,
he took under his special guardianship the temples,
especially the tabernacles, and everything related
to the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
Since this is the most august and most divine of
all the Sacraments, it should have been entrusted
to the care and special custody of the most exalted
of the Angels.
Consider the displeasure with which Saint Michael
will view those who stand before the Blessed
Sacrament without devotion, and
even more so those who dare to profane it.
When you stand before the Tabernacle, remember
the presence of Saint Michael and try to imitate
him in the reverence and devotion with
which he guards Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
Second Point
The Church's belief in this continual tenderness of Saint Michael to the Most Holy Sacrament of the Eucharist is seen in the prayers she places on the lips of priests when they celebrate Holy Mass. Twice they name Saint Michael at the beginning of the Holy Sacrifice, so that he may help them obtain forgiveness for their sins. At Masses for the dead, after the Gospel, his help is implored to lead the souls in Purgatory to Heaven, and it is said to Jesus Christ: "Deliver them from the lion's mouth and from the deep lake; may they not fall into darkness; but rather, may the benign Saint Michael present them before the holy light that you promised of old to Abraham and his descendants." At solemn Masses, when blessing the incense, the intercession of the Blessed Saint Michael the Archangel is also invoked. After the consecration, the Church again asks God to deign to accept everything offered to Him in the Holy Sacrifice and that we send it to Him through the mediation of His Holy Angel. Such is the faith that the Holy Church has in Saint Michael's relationship with the most sacred Eucharist! Let us also implore the most zealous Archangel to obtain for us a most fervent devotion to the most holy Sacrament.
Example
Appearing to a holy man named Didymus, the Archangel Saint Michael specially charged him with respect for the Blessed Sacrament, as all the Angels do to the highest degree. Saint Michael added that for this reason the Angels greatly respected priests and that the Mother of God herself, if she found an Angel and a priest, would honor the priest even more. He also made him aware of the reverence with which those celestial spirits, prostrate on the ground, attend the Holy Mass and the sovereign sacrifice of the Altar, and in it, praise the Lord and adore Jesus Christ, prostrate on their faces, offering to the Eternal Father the sovereign Divine Offering and Victim of His Most Holy Son, for the remedy of the world; and that they are greatly offended by those who do not reverently stand in the temples. He entrusted the same reverence for the Blessed Sacrament to Eutropius, the anchorite, to whom he said that what could most move souls to devotion was the consideration of the Passion of the Lord and the institution of the Blessed Sacrament; the memory of which, he affirmed, was most sweet and tender for the Holy Archangel himself.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength!
We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary,
and of the glorious Saint Michael the Archangel,
you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the
harm of mankind and the ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them
from us forever. Amen.
