3 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 3
Begginers Prayer
Having made the Sign of the Cross and
kneeling preferably before the
Blessed Sacrament or the image of
Saint Michael the Archangel,
raising your heart to God, who is present,
and bowing deeply in spirit,
you will say every day:
Act of Contrition
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I am heartily sorry for having
offended You; I firmly resolve never to sin again,
to abstain from all occasions
of sin, to go to confession and do penance.
I offer You, Lord, my life, works,
and labors in satisfaction for all my sins.
Amen.
Daily Prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, God of Angels,
Archangels, and Principalities; God of Powers,
Virtues, and Dominions; God of Thrones,
Cherubim, and Seraphim;
who ceaselessly praise and bless
Your Holy Name and fulfill the commands of
Your sovereign Majesty, surrounding
Your exalted Throne, and offering You,
as a sweet-smelling aroma,
the incense of our prayers,
which we now address to You,
we humbly beg You to accept.
We beseech You,
through the glory and intercession
of the glorious Saint Michael,
that You deign to grant us Your assistance,
and keep us safe from the snares,
deceits, and power of Satan and
all infernal spirits.
May God arise, and may His enemies
be destroyed through Jesus Christ,
Our Lord. Amen.
Day 3
Humility of Saint Michael the Archangel
According to Saint Bernard (followed by many important authors), when God
revealed to the Angels that the Eternal Word was to become man, and thus,
one of a lesser nature than angelic was to be God, and as such, worshipped
by all the Angels, Lucifer was indignant at having as his superior one who
was so inferior in nature. But, as Lucifer became proud, so did Saint Michael
humble himself, and he longed to worship and see that God-Man, to submit
to him and throw himself at his feet. And so, because of this desire of
Saint Michael, the Lord entrusted him with the patronage of the human race,
since he determined to show mercy to Adam and his children.
Sister Maria de Agreda says that this Prince of the Heavenly Host was
appointed head of the Angels whom God appointed to guard Mary, and
destined him to carry out certain ministries, as a special ambassador of Christ
Our Lord, to care for the protection of His Most Holy Mother.
At the time of the Redeemer's birth and after his birth, Saint Michael rendered
many services and gifts, without failing his Most Holy Mother. He even fulfilled,
according to the same servant of God, all the duties of the choirs and lower
orders, which is no less an example of humility in such greatness.
Thus he taught us to acknowledge with docility and submission our most sweet
Savior and to offer him our homage and adoration.
Example:
In the first three centuries of the Church, numerous and famous apparitions
of Saint Michael are recounted. It was a widespread belief among the faithful
of those centuries that this holy Archangel was the first Angel to feed the
Savior in the desert after the forty days of fasting; it was also believed that
Jesus had entrusted Saint Michael with the guardianship of the soul of the
Blessed Virgin Mary, and that he was the one who appeared at the tomb after
the Lord's Resurrection and also the one who appeared when the
Redeemer disappeared among the clouds on the day of the Ascension.
Saint Michael also appeared in those early centuries in the vicinity of
Colossae (a Greek colony in Phrygia), in Asia; a temple was built here,
which later became very popular due to the great favors that Saint Michael
bestowed there. Simeon Metaphrastus tells us that this apparition to the
Colossians was long celebrated among the Greeks for the great
miracles that accompanied it.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength! We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary, and of the glorious Saint Michael
the Archangel, you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the harm of mankind and the
ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them from us forever. Amen.
