5 of 33 Day Consecration to St. Michael
Day 5
Begginers Prayer
Having made the Sign of the Cross and
kneeling preferably before the
Blessed Sacrament or the image of
Saint Michael the Archangel,
raising your heart to God, who is present,
and bowing deeply in spirit,
you will say every day:
Act of Contrition
My Lord Jesus Christ, true God and true man,
I am heartily sorry for having
offended You; I firmly resolve never to sin again,
to abstain from all occasions
of sin, to go to confession and do penance.
I offer You, Lord, my life, works,
and labors in satisfaction for all my sins.
Amen.
Daily Prayer:
Lord God of heaven and earth, God of Angels,
Archangels, and Principalities; God of Powers,
Virtues, and Dominions; God of Thrones,
Cherubim, and Seraphim;
who ceaselessly praise and bless
Your Holy Name and fulfill the commands of
Your sovereign Majesty, surrounding
Your exalted Throne, and offering You,
as a sweet-smelling aroma,
the incense of our prayers,
which we now address to You,
we humbly beg You to accept.
We beseech You,
through the glory and intercession
of the glorious Saint Michael,
that You deign to grant us Your assistance,
and keep us safe from the snares,
deceits, and power of Satan and
all infernal spirits.
May God arise, and may His enemies
be destroyed through Jesus Christ,
Our Lord. Amen.
Day 5
GREATNESS OF SAINT MICHAEL THE ARCHANGEL
Think of the greatness and superiority of Prince Saint Michael.
All the Angels are at his disposal, as seen in the Apocalypse,
where they are called his ministers, and his soldiers are appointed in
ecclesiastical offices.
No intelligence can form a proper conception of this dignity and
primacy that God granted to this His Prime Minister for his love and
fidelity. For if we admire someone who reigns throughout the world,
how can we not marvel at the principality of Saint Michael, who rules
over all the nine choirs of Angels, since the simplest and least
numerous choir far exceeds all the men who live in all parts of the
world?
Of the number of Angels, Saint Bridget said, as Dionus Carthusian
relates, that even if all men who have ever existed, exist, and will
ever exist were now alive together, ten Guardian Angels could be
assigned to each of them.
This is undoubtedly a stupendous empire, domination, and primacy,
which human intelligence cannot grasp. Or, indeed, can you
comprehend the quality of the subjects, which include thousands of
most noble Angels, most glorious Principalities, millions of most
powerful Powers, miraculous Virtues, majestic Dominions, and
thousands upon millions of sublime Thrones, most wise Cherubim,
and most holy Seraphim?
All together, there are so many that some Fathers and doctors say
there are no numbers to comprehend them all; and Saint Michael
dominates over all of them. There is no doubt about it. It is indeed
a great glory to have so many and such glorious subjects!
So much honor is due to such a great Prince of Heaven, who
deserves great veneration and respect from all men, thus honoring
all the Angels in their Prince Saint Michael.
Let us ask the Lord to make known to us the merits of such a sublime
Prince, and to grant us the grace to profess true devotion to him,
subjecting ourselves to his obedience and veneration; praising his
excellences and virtues, crying out to him in all our needs, entrusting
to him the Holy Church, the exaltation of the Faith, and the eradication
of heresies. Let us ask him to restrain and imprison the infernal spirits
and to favor us and our fellow benefactors in spiritual and temporal
matters.
Example:
One of the most famous apparitions of Saint Michael, and the one
that most increased his cult and best informed us of the exalted
power of the Prince of Angels, took place at the end of the 5th
century, in the year 493. In a town in Puglia (Italy), then called
Siponto and today Manfredonia, lived a famous figure named
Gargano. He owned a large herd of cattle, which he grazed in
the mountains near the town, which were very rich in pasture.
Since he owned the entire mountain, he gave it his name;
hence, it is called Mount Gargano. One day, a bull escaped from
him to a hill that faces the Adriatic Sea. Gargano, followed by
his servants, followed the bull, without being able to catch it.
Finally, the animal took refuge at the entrance of a cave in the
mountain. The irritated owner armed his bow and shot a deadly
arrow at the fugitive animal. The arrow flew swiftly from the bow,
but instead of hitting the bull, it turned around and lodged itself
in the very one who had shot it.
All those present were amazed by this miracle and hastened to
consult the Bishop of Siponto. He ordered all the inhabitants of
that town to fast and pray for three days. On the third day,
Saint Michael appeared to the Bishop and revealed that the
cave where the miracle had occurred was under his protection
and that a temple should be built there. The holy Bishop,
followed by all the inhabitants of Siponto, proceeded in procession
to the miraculous cave. There he celebrated Mass and gave
Communion to all the Sipontines. Later, a temple was built on
that spot in honor of Saint Michael. So many miracles were
performed there by the Holy Archangel that pilgrims began to
flock to Mount Gargano from all over the world, making this
mountain one of the most famous places in Christianity. The
Church attached such importance to this apparition of
Saint Michael that it dedicated a special feast to him,
celebrated throughout the Catholic world on May 8.
Final Prayer for Every Day
O God, our refuge and strength! We supplicantly implore your mercy,
so that through the intercession of the ever-
Immaculate Virgin and our Mother, Mary, and of the glorious Saint Michael
the Archangel, you may deign to help us against Satan and all other
unclean spirits who infest the world for the harm of mankind and the
ruin of souls.
Cast them into the abyss and remove them from us forever. Amen.
