Teresa was born in Spain in the early 1500’s. Like many teenage girls, she loved fashion, boys and dreaming about the world outside. That same passion inspired her to bravely follow her dream to become a Carmelite nun. Teresa had intense spiritual experiences and eventually started a new convent stripped of the luxuries some other religious communities enjoyed at the time. Teresa’s writings were deep but relatable. She would use common metaphors like “diamonds” or even “chess” to help teach faith.
